Home made baby’s food is easy with our multi-purpose kitchen cooker, Thermomix®. Always start with small amounts of new solid foods — a teaspoon (5g) at first and slowly increase to a tablespoon (15g). Always start with plain rice then slowly introduce vegetables, fruits, and then meats. Do not add salt or sugar when making homemade infant foods. Portion out cooked food into freezer safe packs and thaw to heat up whenever required.

Vegetable Purees

Ingredients
- 500 g water
- 500 g vegetables* washed, peeled and cut into 2cm sizes
Preparation
- Place water into mixing bowl. Insert simmering basket and weigh sweet potato into it. Cook 18-21 min/Varoma/speed 1 or until sweet potato is cooked through.
- Remove simmering basket with aid of spatula. Empty mixing bowl. Place cooked sweet potato into mixing bowl and blend 20 sec/speed 4-8, increasing speed gradually from speed 4 to speed 8. Scrape down sides of mixing bowl with spatula. Repeat blending until desired consistency is achieved. Allow to cool prior to serving.
Hints & Tips
- You may wish to add up to 50 g water, breast milk or formula milk to achieve a smoother consistency.

Cooking porridge and soup is so easy with Thermomix. After placing the required ingredients into the mixing bowl, you can safely leave it to your Thermomix to stir and cook for you – whereas conventional stove cooking will require you to stand by the pot to constantly stir as porridge tend to scotch at the base while cooking.

To introduce rice to the baby for the first time, consider grinding rice into rice powder so that the texture is more fine and easier for the baby to accept and digest.
Baby Rice Powder
Ingredients
- 200 g rice (weight before rinsing) rinsed and dried (use the oven at low heat) rice grains
Preparation
- Grind 200g of rice grains at 3 min/speed 10 to make powdered rice that is more suitable for very small babies just being introduced to solids. You can then use as much rice as you need for each meal in the following proportions by weight: 1 part ground rice to 6 parts breast milk/formula milk/water
- Once your baby has become used to eating this baby rice, try cooking it with a peeled, cored apple or pear – or a peeled carrot cut into chunks. Cook at speed 4 for the same timings as stated, then purée 20 sec/speed 8.
- For the milk in this recipe, use your usual formula, breast milk or water.
Baby’s Porridge
Ingredients
- 500 g water (or mixture of water and milk/breast milk)
- 60 g rice (weight before rinsing) (may be a mixture of white and brown rice)
- 4 – 15 g minced chicken / floss meat (no salt)
- 1/2 to 1 tsp chicken / fish stock powder (no salt)
Preparation
- Place rinsed rice, meat, stock powder and water in mixing bowl, placing simmering basket instead of measuring cup onto mixing bowl lid to help prevent splashing, cook 25 min/98°C/speed 1.
- Blend 20 sec/speed 4-8
- Keep warm using Warm Up mode
- Add water if it is too dry
Tips
- Use powdered rice (see above instructions) if introducing rice for the first time to the baby
- Add in some nutritious brown rice
- Start with 4g (1tsp) of meat if the baby is eating meat for the first time and slowly adjust the portion up to 15g (1 TBSP)
- Add variety by letting baby try different types of meat
- Add some vegetables for variety
